Reducing your toxic load was one of the topics I covered in my recent live and virtual talks on Menopause.
As you go through hormonal changes, it becomes even more important to pay attention to this.
And it does not have to involve expensive detox treatments…
Here are my 3 tips:
๐๐ป 1. Think what’s going INTO your body.
That means un-process your food.
All that “yummy” comfort food๐ฆ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฅฉ๐ง that we tend to crave especially in the dark winter (refined sugar, fizzy drinks, processed meat and dairy), is unfortunately inflammatory and will cause havoc to your hormones.
Aim for more plants. How about trying more of these? ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅฌ๐ฅ๐ฅฆ๐๐๐๐ฅ.
I often get asked “Is it worth eating organic?”. Yes, it is.
Is it expensive? Yes, it is.
So, do what you can, but don’t stress about it.
Reduce your alcohol intake๐ธ.
I know, we don’t like talking about it.
But just think what those alcohol disinfectant gels do to the bugsโฆso alcohol will do the same to your healthy gut bacteria (the gut microbiome) ๐.
If you haven’t tried mocktails yet, they are delicious ๐น – ย sansย alcohol – ย of course๐.
๐๐ป 2. Think what’s going ON your body – your skin and personal hygiene products – go toxin-free, if you can.ย
๐Lipstick, for example, is high in heavy metals.
If you are in the UK and looking for a local, sustainable, affordable and organic skin care brand… then look no further.
Ermana Skincare, www.ermana.co.uk, hand-made in Glasgow is my current favourite.
(No financial interest there. I’m just really excited to have found this local brand, and they ship across the UK ๐).
If you know of any other clean brands, give me a shout. I would love to hear from you.
๐๐ป 3. When you are sure about the first 2 points above, think what’s AROUND you.
Your air quality at home. Candles. Air fresheners. You kitchen ware. Did you know that teflon pans and heated plastic tubs (especially in the microwave) create those “forever chemicals” that disrupt your hormones?
How about stainless steel and cast iron pots and pans instead?
By the way, this message is not intended to add any more stress or overwhelm to your already busy livesโฆ๐
But it might help you REDUCE the amount of toxins you are unintentionally exposing yourself to on a daily basis๐๐ป๐.
So, over time you will learn to train your “toxic lense”, and it will become second nature to make choices for a cleaner life for yourself and your family๐๐ฑ.
What would be the one change you will start with today?
I would love to hear from you.
